The Illinois Network of Centers for Independent Living (INCIL) announced they have a new Executive Director today.
John S. Herring Sr. was officially named the new Executive Director of the organization, that is a leading statewide disability advocacy organization in Illinois.
INCIL is the statewide association for Illinois’ 22 Centers for Independent Living (CILs), including the Jacksonville Area Center of Independent Living, located at 15 Permac Road, Jacksonville .
Herring, who officially began in the post in August, fills the vacancy after the departure of Ryan Croke, who was appointed to the position of Chief of Staff of the Illinois Department of Human Services.
Croke had served the organization since 2017, following the retirement of founding Executive Director Ann Ford.
Herring most recently served as Executive Director of a transitional housing program for homeless veterans in East St. Louis.
He will now lead the association of community-based, non-residential, non-profit organizations that are of, by and for persons with disabilities.
Herring said he looks forward to moving the Independent Living Philosophy forward throughout the state, and that his goal is to make Illinois a “best practice” state for centers of independent living.
