A fifty-year journey through retrospective paintings will be shown at the Strawn Art Gallery in April.

The opening reception for Jacksonville artist Robert Veness will be held on Saturday from 6-8 p.m.

According to a press release, Veness started painting in the 1930s, earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Ohio State University and helped establish the Jacksonville Art League in the 1970s.

Veness used his industrial design training in the development and manufacture of Baggies food storage bags and other plastics for well-equipped kitchen.

Veness was commissioned by Elliot Bank of Jacksonville to do a series of pen and ink drawings of historic landmarks. The series was reproduced on notecards and featured on brochures connected to local organizations and events.

Artwork from Veness will be on display from April 3-30.
