The inaugural list is being released by Discount My Flights, which runs a website of the same name, which classifies small towns as those with populations of 20-thousand or less.

Jacksonville Convention and Visitors Bureau President Brittany Henry.

“One of the things that I think really helped us out was our historical sites that we have, our close proximity to Springfield, [which has] an airport, because this was Discount My Flights that announced this, and our central location to Peoria, Bloomington, St. Louis, Chicago,” says Henry.

Reporter: “Any time you get on a list like that, it just helps the exposure of Jacksonville.”

Henry: “It does, and it couldn’t be more perfect timing. We’re actually re-doing our visitors’ guide right now, and so we do have a badge that says we are a top-50 small town in America, so that’s going to be pretty nice that we’re going to be able to place that logo in our visitors’ guide this year,” she says.

The other Illinois town on the list was Galena.
