Jacksonville Main Street and the Jacksonville Chamber Business-Education Partner Program are again accepting school supply donations for Jacksonville Middle School. Jacksonville Main Street Executive Director Judy Tighe says they collect specifically for the middle school because those students require very specific needs to be met: “The Middle School has always required trappers. They’ve always required those instead of backpacks, and it’s one particular item they are always in need of. They don’t always last through the year, and a lot of the stores don’t carry them throughout the year. The school likes to have a few extras on hand. Then, of course, pens, pencils, colored pencils, and this year especially, cleaning supplies.”
Tighe says the middle school kids are usually not the first to be thought of when it comes to school supplies, because the supplies are often more expensive and the students are more self-conscious about fitting in socially by having the newest, latest things for school. Supply lists and drop off boxes are available now until August 11th at the Jacksonville Public Library, Times Square Sewing Complex, and Market House Antiques. Drop off at those 3 locations are during business hours. For more information, call 245-6884.
