Jacksonville Police Investigate 7th Shots Fired Incident Since March

Jacksonville Police continue to deal with a rash of gunfire on the city’s streets.

Jacksonville Police were called to a residence in the 600 block of North Clay Avenue at 1:17PM this afternoon. A caller advised they had heard several gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, police discovered that gunfire had struck a vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Officers received reports of gunfire on Sunday near the vicinity of North Church Street and West Walnut Avenue. Lieutenant Matt Martin told the Journal Courier that several shell casings were recovered, but there was no evidence any residences or buildings were hit. No injuries were reported.

On May 13th, police were called to the 800 block of North Main Street after several witnesses said they heard shots come from behind a vacant house. A juvenile was arrested for a shots fired incident on May 14th in the 800 block of East College Avenue. The three remaining incidents occurred in the 600 block of North Clay Avenue on March 6th, April 9th, and May 8th.
