The Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation has received a major donation from an area employer’s charitable foundation.

Yesterday, the Jacksonville Public Schools Foundation announced it had received a $5,000 grant from Dot Foods, Inc. through its charitable giving program.

The donation will be used to support the JPSF’s Student Needs Fund, which provides shoes, coats, clothing, school supplies, and personal hygiene items to underserved District #117 students.

The grant application was submitted by the JPSF as it has seen a significant increase in the number of requests for all items over the past eighteen months. JSPSF officials say it is a reflection that families in District #117 are also feeling the effects of the economic issues impacting the entire country, and the foundation continues to provide assistance so that students can focus on their educational and social growth.
