We are less than a week away from the Muscular Dystrophy Association Lock-Up in Jacksonville.

MDA Fundraiser Coordinator Jenna Warner appeared on WLDS’ “What’s On Your Mind?” yesterday and says community members have been asking for “bail money” over the past month to “pay their jail sentence.”

“The Lock-Up raises money for families in Jacksonville living with a muscle disease. That could go towards paying for a special clinic, summer camp or durable medical supplies.”

“You get to come to the event, network and catch up with ‘cellmates’ that you already know. You also get to call friends and family to help support MDA and the community.”

Warner says about 20 people in Jacksonville are suffering from at least one of the 46 muscular disorders, each of which includes its own set of limitations.

“With ALS it takes away your ability quite quickly. Within two years you could lose the ability to walk, talk and breathe. Some are limited in certain muscle groups. It varies quite a bit.”

Warner says this fundraiser brought in almost $30,000 two years ago.

WLDS-WEAI News will be live at the event on February 23rd at the Jacksonville Visitor’s Bureau office from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
