The City of Waverly is looking for a new police chief.

The Journal Courier reports that Chief Chris Johnson retired on Friday after 3 years. Johnson was hired in Waverly in 2020 after 25 years with the Jacksonville Police Department.

Johnson says his reason for retirement from law enforcement was wishing to be closer to his family in Jacksonville.

The report says that on Monday, Johnson took on a new role as a code enforcement officer for the City of Jacksonville.

Waverly has not hired a new chief. Johnson told the Journal Courier that the Waverly City Council will advertise the position soon.
