A Macoupin County-based mental health facility is taking over a closed facility on the Jacksonville square.

Locust Street Resource Center announced on Monday that it will be opening a new office at 60 East Central Park Plaza, the former home of the Community Hope & Recovery Center.

Community Hope & Recovery announced in March that it would be closing it doors on May 31st due to financial pressures brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Locust Street Resource Center is based out of Carlinville, and was originally started in 1974 as the Macoupin County Mental Health Center. After several transitions and expansion over the decades, the group was renamed in 2005 after a move to a new facility.

According to the announcement, the Morgan County branch will offer utpatient mental health and substance abuse counseling and group sessions, while psychiatric services will be offered out of the Carlinville office. The Jacksonville office hours will be 8:30 – 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 – 4:00 pm on Friday.

A request for comment and more information from Locust Street officials has not been returned as of press time.
