Jacksonville High School has a state champion wrestler.
Brooklyn Murphy claimed the top trophy in her weight class yesterday at the state wrestling meet hosted by the Illinois Wrestling Coaches Association.
Meanwhile, three wrestlers in Jacksonville will compete in the Illinois Wrestling Coaches of American state meet next weekend.
One of the wrestlers is from Jacksonville High School. He is sectional champion Colin Reif.
Two others are from Routt-ISVI. They include Leo Tomich, who is the first wrestler from the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired to wrestle at a state meet since 1995. He will compete in the heavyweight division. He’s only the second from ISVI in the past 35 years. Tomich finished 4th in the sectionals.
And, Routt has its first ever wrestler to qualify for the state tournament. He is Reed Davis, who finished 2nd last weekend in the 152 pound division.
The state meet will be held at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield on Saturday.
