On The Rox gets liquor license suspended for three weekends

We have an update to a story we first told you about yesterday regarding disciplinary action against a downtown Jacksonville bar from the city’s liquor commission.

Jacksonville Mayor Andy Ezard says the city and On The Rox bar have reached an agreement that will see the bar’s liquor license suspended for three consecutive Fridays and Saturdays starting tomorrow.

The city originally planned to revoke the bar’s liquor permit for 23 days after several recent incidents, including a large street fight outside the bar early New Year’s Day.

Ezard is the chairman of the liquor commission.

A letter advising a public hearing that would be conducted Friday was mailed this week to attorneys for On The Rox, as well as the bar’s owner, but the meeting has been called off.

A manager for the bar declined to comment when we reached out yesterday.
