Passavant Area Hospital hosted an open house for its new behavioral unit on Tuesday.

Officials say the ten-bed inpatient unit, which will officially open next week, will provide treatment for adult patients with acute behavioral health symptoms requiring hospitalization and stabilization.

Dr. Pravesh Basnet is the behavioral health unit’s new medical director.

“With this, people will have access at home, and also our unit is built state-of-the-art in terms of safety. We have all private rooms. We are going to use aromatherapy, occupation therapy, psychotherapy. All kinds of different therapies we are going to use. So, it’s going to be a good unit, and not just for the fact that it’s here, also for the fact that it’s going to be a really good unit,” says Basnet.

Money for the project came from the estate of Howard and Vera Million, which donated 320 acres of farmland and a million dollars.
