Two women were killed yesterday when a vehicle flipped over into a ditch on Old Route 36 west of Jacksonville yesterday.
According to an Illinois State Police report, State Troopers and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single-vehicle crash and rollover on Old Route 36 at the U.S. 67 northbound exit ramp at approximately 4:05PM
According to the report, a 2005 Hyundai SUV was traveling north on US 67 approaching Morton Avenue. For unknown reasons, the vehicle lost control and ran off the right side of the exit ramp and struck a utility pole before rolling over and coming to rest on its top.
The driver, an unidentified 55-year old woman from Jacksonville was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger, a 77-year old woman from Jacksonville was transported from the scene by ambulance to an area hospital where she later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police. No further information is currently available.
