Illinois College will host an acclaimed area folk musician to tell the tales of Abraham Lincoln in song tonight.
Chris Vallillo of Macomb will perform “Abraham Lincoln in Song” as a part of the Family Night Series of the Illinois College Fine Arts Series tonight at 6:30 in Sibert Theater.
Vallillo says he hopes to weave in the education and the entertaining together on vintage instruments through time period appropriate songs: “What I’ve tried to do is create a show that uses historic music. Some of it is music that folks will recognize. Some of it is going to be obscure music that they have never heard before, but it is all music that I can directly associate with Abraham Lincoln at different points in his life. The music is the vehicle to tell Lincoln’s life story, and through the music, Illinois developing, as well. There will be quotes from Lincoln in the show. There is a couple of stories that Lincoln himself used to tell, because he was a great storyteller – but then I will go all the way from the beginning of his life through the end of his life in story and in song.”
Vallillo says that the program is family oriented, and that there is something in the show for everyone.
Individual tickets are $5 each. Students of all ages are able to attend for free. Tickets are available for purchase in advance by phone at 217-245-3192 or at the door.
