Winchester City Council members passed an amendment last night during a meeting that aims to clarify a noise ordinance.

Winchester Mayor Rex McIntyre says the city has received complaints about noise from truckers parking overnight in an area near a residence.

“Our city attorney, John Coonrod, went in and looked at the noise ordinance we already had enforced, and he more or less amended it a little bit to make sure it was more clear, and included what we thought needed to be covered in this ordinance,” McIntyre says.

He says he understand the concerns of residents.

“At night, when you’re trying to sleep, and you do hear a noise like that close by, I can see where it would be a problem.”

McIntyre says aldermen also discussed amending expanding an ordinance that already allows golf carts to be driven on city streets to also allow UTV vehicles. He says more research needs to be done on the issue.
