A stretch of highway west of Winchester is getting a new surface.
The Illinois Department of Transportation will resurface route 106 between the Hillview Blacktop to the US 36 junction, and eventually continue into Winchester to Commercial Street. The work starts today.
The work is expected to be finished by early August.
Work crews will replace guardrails, improve drainage and install new pavement markings as part of the project. The cost is $2-point-8 million.
The work will close lanes at times, and cause motorist delays.
IDOT urges motorists to use alternate routes when possible.
IDOT also encourages those motorists using the road to slow down, stay off the cell phones and remain alert.
