The public outcry against data centers has prompted Governor JB Pritzker to put a hold on tax incentives for new data centers.
Governor Pritzker ordered the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to pause processing agreements for the data center investment program starting July 1st.
He is also calling on the general assembly to take action in a veto session to develop a long term framework for data centers.
Pritzker says data centers should pay their fair share, protect water resources, support clean energy, and give communities transparency and a voice in the planning.
He says existing agreements under the data center investment program entered into before July 1st though, will be honored.
