Jacksonville police chief Doug Thompson has a key position to fill, now that Kyle Chumley has been added as a deputy chief.
Chumley previously served as chief of detectives, before he was appointed to the post Monday night.
Chumley knows this will be an important position to fill within the department.
He says this officer works behind the scenes to keep cases moving and affect arrests in the tougher investigations.
Chief Thompson will take his time to fill the position.
He says this is the hardest position for him to fill. Thompson gave three officers interested in the job one month each in the position, but still hasn’t made a final decision.
Rodney Cox retired as deputy chief after 30 years with the department.
Jacksonville has two deputy chiefs…Matt Martin who handles patrols, and Chumley who will lead up investigations and oversee technology upgrades.
