The status of a Morgan County commissioner is in limbo.

We have tried to reach Dr Michael Woods by telephone, but he has not responded yet.

A call to Fort Hayes State University in Kansas revealed that Dr Woods is now the chair for the agriculture department at Fort Hays.

A receptionist at the school says Dr Woods has been at the school since January. She says he is currently in China on a trip, and won’t be back in the states until June 22nd.

We have attempted to reach county board chairman Mike Wankel and fellow commissioner Donnie Wood this morning, and have not been able to reach them.

Dr Woods was present by telephone at the Morgan County board meeting at the end of May, but was not present either in person or by phone at Monday’s meeting. He has been at other meetings since January.

Morgan County state’s attorney Gray Noll says there is a residency requirement for the position, but it only requires that the office holder maintain a residence in Morgan County.

Woods is a candidate on the democrat ticket for Morgan County commissioner. He is opposed by Greg Hacker, the republican nominee.

Woods was appointed to the Morgan County board after Brad Zeller retired.
