An unveiling of sorts will be held late this afternoon to show off the Jacksonville fire department’s newest truck.
It is a 2026 Pierce 100 foot ladder truck from Wisconsin.
It’s only the second ladder truck the city has purchased since the turn of the century.
Fire chief Matt Summers says the doors will be opened at 4:30 this afternoon at the main station at Jacksonville city hall.
A commissioning ceremony will be held at 5:15, and take about 30 minutes.
Summers says this is not just a one year process to buy and pay for the truck.
He says the previous fire chief, Doug Sills, worked with the council and mayor Andy Ezard to being the buying process 4 years ago.
Summers says the department had training last week on the truck.
The former truck is expected to be purchased by South Jacksonville for $200-thousand.
