Good Audit Report for Morgan County

The Morgan County board this morning received a good financial report from the local auditors.

Adam Withee of Zumbahlen, Eyth, Surratt, Foote and Flynn delivered the audit of last year’s finances to all three county commissioners this morning.

Withee says Morgan County’s general fund is in very good shape.

He says the amount of money in the cash reserves are more than sufficient.

Withee says the county is now at 22 months. The limit is 30 months in reserve.

Withee says the COVID grant money from the federal recovery act has helped pay for elevators repairs and other renovations at the Morgan County courthouse and improvements at the Morgan County Jail. But, he says that’s just a one time event.

Withee says the state’s adjustment from the replacement tax money prompts a little caution.

The tax once was well over a million dollars a year. Withee says the state is trying to re-coop overpayments, and it is now between a half million and three quarter million dollars a year.

The Morgan County board heard from Lori Fuller, from the Illinois Separation referendum group. Members are pushing a separation of downtstate counties from Cook County, virtually creating a new state. She was urging the commissioners to allow the referendum on the ballot.

One of those concerned about data centers, Colleen Flinn asked for an update on the data center moratorium. The county is expected to finalize new laws for data centers in October.
