A new weekly support group for women affected by domestic violence and sexual assault will begin meeting in Jacksonville later this month.

Voices of Strength, founded by Jacksonville native Alexa Brickey in partnership with Go Church, will hold its first meeting Monday, July 13, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Go Church, 767 South West Street. Children are welcome, with a playroom available during the meetings.

Brickey, now an on-air personality at Springfield radio station WQLZ, said she created the group after her own experiences as a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault and aggravated battery.

She says the goal is to provide a safe place where survivors can connect with others who have shared similar experiences.

The weekly meetings will include group discussions, literature written by survivors, guest speakers and information on community resources, including counseling, recovery and mental health services.

Brickey says she hopes to expand the program over time by partnering with local organizations to offer additional support and resources for women throughout the region.

The meetings are free and open to women affected by domestic violence or sexual assault. For more information about the meetings, you can reach out to Brickey’s social media.
