The new multipurpose building for the Winchester school district has a name.
The Winchester school board met in special session last night to review and award bids for the construction.
The building will go next to where the district is tearing down the gym, which is expected to be finished within the week.
Winchester school superintendent Jeff Abell says the district had 8 or 9 bids, and the company hired was Midwest Construction in Girard. The cost is just over $1 and a half million.
Abell says the building will carry the name of a major donor.
Abell says the building will be called the Kerry Ballard Legacy Center, in honor of the family who donated $1-million specifically for the building.
Abell says the key is to keep the cost down and not add to the taxpayers’ tax bills.
The district is using health life safety monies for the project, along with the donated money. He hopes to finish the building by January.
Abell says the multi purpose building would be connected to a new gym. The voters will decide the gym construction in an $8 and a half million referendum on the ballot for school district voters in November.
