Over one hundred 60 young golfers are registered to play the Links today in the annual Robbie McEvers Golf Tournament.
The Jacksonville Kiwanis Club and several volunteers will help the golfers ages 5 to 18 and walk with the players as they negotiate the Links Golf Course.
Kiwanis golf chairman Wade Mathis says the tournament started after Robbie McEvers lost his battle to leukemia.
The family ran the tournament for several years after 1979, and then turned it over to volunteers. The Kiwanis Club stepped in after that/
Mathis says this is a wonderful way for young golfers to experience tournament play.
He says the tournament can boast of one famous golfer for this year who played when she was younger.
Routt graduate Addie Dobson qualified for the women’s US Open golf tournament this summer.
Mathis says Kiwanis picks up the tab for all the players, who get trophies and free food.
