The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will soon begin the search for a new executive director.
Current Executive Director Christina Shutt announced last Wednesday that she plans to step down at the end of her current term in late 2026 after leading the Springfield institution since June 2021. According to the museum, Shutt is the longest-serving executive director in its history.
During her tenure, the library and museum earned national accreditation, developed its first strategic plan, opened new funding opportunities, mounted award-winning exhibits, and expanded community outreach.
Board of Trustees Chairman Gary Johnson thanked Shutt for her leadership, saying she helped strengthen the museum while broadening how Abraham Lincoln’s story and Illinois history are shared with the public.
Shutt says she is proud of what the organization has accomplished over the past five years and believes the museum is well-positioned for future success.
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Board of Trustees, working with Governor JB Pritzker, will conduct a search for a new executive director. The appointment will require confirmation by the Illinois Senate. Shutt will remain in the position through the end of 2026 to help ensure a smooth transition.
