Illinois has set aside a week long back to school state tax holiday.
The event starts today.
Don O Brien of the Better Business Bureau says it’s a great time to shop for school supplies.
He says there is a limit to what is sales tax exempt.
The event actually runs through the 16th. The items included in the holiday are clothing, footwear and school supplies.
O Brien says set a budget before you shop.
During the holiday, the state waives the 5-percent sales tax on qualifying purchases. Any applicable local sales tax will still apply.
