Jacksonville aldermen may be asked tonight to move a rezoning issue along Black’s Lane off the table.
The rezoning for an area from the railroad tracks to 550 feet short of East Morton would be for a solar field. Aldermen tabled the matter early last month after too many questions needed answers the council and the company seeking the zoning couldn’t find.
The company, Nexamp, says it would be a community solar field on the east side of Black’s Lane built to help provide power credits to residential homes.
Aldermen must move the matter off the table first, and then decide if the field should be rezoned from residential to manufacturing with a special use permit.
Aldermen will be asked to consider the purchase of home at 346 North West. The property is just north of Jacksonville city hall, and the city is attempting to secure property in the block for any planned expansion in the future. There are no plans proposed at this point.
The council will consider upping the number of liquor licenses by one for the Patio Restaurant on West College.
The group will also look at changes in the zoning ordinance that regulate overnight shelters and similar facilities.
Public hearings from 4 to 6 PM are scheduled to learn about community development block grants for a housing rehab program for the low to moderate income. The city is applying for $800-thousand. Another hearing is for downtown community revitalization program. Community Development director Brian Nyberg says the money would probably be used for new sidewalks over a several year period from downtown to Morton. The other hearing will be about the open space lands acquisition and development grant, or OSLAD grant for new playground equipment for Nichols Park.
