Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site is bringing back its expanded Candlelight Walk this fall.
The event will take place over three weekends — October ninth through 11th, and 16th through 18th — from 5 to 7:30 each evening.
More than 200 candle lanterns will illuminate pathways throughout the historic village, while building interiors will be lit by candlelight. Period-dressed staff and volunteer interpreters will be stationed throughout the village to discuss life in 19th-century Illinois.
Site Superintendent Troy Gilmore says the event was expanded to three weekends last year following a positive public response.
Admission and parking are free. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and free hot chocolate will be offered while supplies last.
