The National Weather Service continues to keep an eye on river levels in central Illinois. A Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening for Calhoun, Greene, Jersey and Pike counties. A second Flood Watch runs through Saturday afternoon for Scott, Morgan and Sangamon counties. Forecasters are calling for chances of showers and thunderstorms today and tonight and again Saturday night, with a possibility of up to an inch of additional rain. Meanwhile, the Illinois River continues to rise, with crests expected this evening. As of last night, the river at Meredosia stood at 19.9 feet, with a crest of 20.3 forecast for later today. Flood stage at Meredosia is 17 feet. At Valley City, the stage last night was 17.6, with a crest of 18.1 expected early Sunday afternoon. Flood stage at Valley City is 14 feet. And, at Beardstown, the Illinois River stood at 21.2 feet, expecting a crest of 21.5 early Saturday afternoon. Flood stage at Beardstown is 14 feet. Once the rain and storms move out of the area, the summer heat moves in, with highs in the mid 90s predicted next week.
