Greenfield Adds 1 Percent Infrastructure Tax

Greenfield now has a new infrastructure tax.

The measure was approved Monday by the Greenfield city council in a special session.

The one percent tax was proposed by mayor Brock Meyer.

Meyer says it was abundantly clear when he took office that the city taxes were insufficient to support the infrastructure.

Meyer says other communities in the area have such a tax. He says meeting with city engineers, the Greene County engineer and the city attorney made it clear the city needs this to keep up work on sidewalks, waterlines and other services.

Meyer says taxes are a dirty word for some, but this tax was needed to address issues within town.

He says his office will continue to seek out grants.
