Heavy Rains in Jacksonville last night

Jacksonville was hammered by storms and rain last night, dumping near historic amounts for the city.

The official measurement here was right at 3 inches.

It is the second time this year that Jacksonville has had 3 or more inches of a rain in a 24 hour period.

WLDS-WEAI recorded a measurement of 3 and 6 hundredths inches on April 26th.

There was another 3 plus inch rainfall in April of 2017. It occurred on the 30th when just over 3 inches fell here.

All pales in comparison with the all time record amount in June or any other month. It was in June of 2011, when 4 point 8 inches of rain fell in a 24 hour period on June 18th. That rainfall flooded the water plant for Jacksonville, and prompted the city to move the plant up the hill off Mauvaisterre Lake along Hardin Avenue.

Normal rainfall for June is 4 and 58-hundredths. Rainfall so far this month stands at 4 and 12 hundredths inches, and we still have two thirds of the month ahead of us.

More rain could come tonight. The forecast calls for rain, as stormy weather moves through for about 3 hours, starting about 5.
