The New Berlin community is mourning the death of their police chief.
Tyler Nydegger was killed Monday according to New Berlin mayor Mike Krall in a hit and run accident while returning from vacation in Wisconsin.
Krall told WAND News Nydegger has been on the village board since 1983, was police chief, served as a medic for the SWAT team, and was a member of the Sangamon County Rescue Squad. Members of that squad say Nydegger was the longest serving member of the squad at 48 years.
