Jacksonville Main Street director Judy Tighe says downtown’s newest mural is being prepared off site.

Main Street has hired Carl Scott Lindley to paint an underground railroad mural that will be on the wall on West Street across from the Morgan Courthouse.

Tighe says Lindley has made remarkable progress.

She says he is more than halfway through, and putting the mural on two pieces of metal to be hung later.

Tighe has her fingers crossed the mural will be ready by Juneteenth.

But if not, Tighe says Lindley has promised to have the mural on the wall by no later than the end of July.

Main Street received a state tourism grant for the work.
