The Jacksonville Kiwanis Club is gearing up for an annual event that has now been moved to the fall.

The Kiwanis club 15th annual point-5-K run/walk is set for Saturday, September 12th.

One of the two co-chairs is Alison Yording. Yording and Marcy Patterson are leading the event.

Yording says the walk will step off about 11 AM on the 12th.

He says the money raised from this year’s event will go toward a new fire safety house for the Jacksonville fire department.

The theme is in honor of the 9/11 weekend.

Yording says people are encouraged to use their imagination.

She says people can dress in firemen’s garb, or in the red, white and blue.

Jacksonville fire chief Matt Summers says the fire safety house is expected to cost about $100-thousand. Patterson says the donation from the Kiwanis, at about $10-thousand, will enable the fire department to secure grants for the project.
