River Flooding Threat Update

The heavy rains in central Illinois have lengthened the flooding threat along the Illinois River.

The National Weather Service says the flood warning continues until further notice. Officials have given no end date.

The Illinois River at Meredosia was reported at just under 18 feet yesterday, and is expected to crest Saturday morning at slightly less than 21 feet.

Flood stage there is at 17 feet. Beach Road just north of Shady Acres floods at 20 feet.

At Beardstown, the last measurement last night was a just under 20 feet. Flood stage there is at 14 feet.

The river is expected to rise to 21 and a half feet by early Friday morning.

Seepage problems begin at the South Beardstown Drainage and levee district at 20 feet.

More rain is forecast for Wednesday and Thursday here.
