High water continues to impact communities along the Illinois River as rivers across west central Illinois remain above flood stage following recent rounds of heavy rain.
WGEM reported early this week that residents in Pike County are continuing to deal with flooding along the Illinois River, with some low-lying roads closed and riverfront areas underwater.
Currently, the National Water Prediction Service provided by the National Weather Service says that the Illinois River at Beardstown remains at moderate flood stage at 21.42 feet, with an expected crest sometime today. La Grange Lock & Dam, Valley City, Meredosia and Hardin all currently sit at minor flood stage on the Illinois River with crests already beginning or expected to occur later today.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible this evening mainly after midnight, but accumulations are not expected to be large to the overall flood picture in the local river valleys.
Conditions are expected to improve as sunshine and much warmer temperatures return Sunday, when highs are expected to reach the lower 90s. With a lengthy hot and dry period expected to stay in the region through next week.
