Mother Nature’s spigot remained turned off last month as temps were higher, and moisture was much less than normal.
Precipitation last month was embarrassingly low. The official total here at the station was 92-hundredths of an inch. That’s about 2 and a half inches less than normal.
It was the driest September here since September of 2017. That year, residents saw just 17-hundredths of an inch of rain.
In fact, 2017 had a four month stretch of just 4 and 2-third inches, running from June through September. The dry weather here has been confined this year from mid August through September.
The heaviest rain was 2-thirds of an inch that fell on the 21st and 22nd. By the way, there were pockets of unexplained rain..such has 1 to 2 inches in a small area north of Jacksonville.
Jacksonville has had only 13 hundredths of an inch of rain since the 22nd of last month.
It was also very warm last month. The average reading was nearly 69 and a half degrees. Normal for the period is just under 66 degrees.
It was the hottest September since 2021.
There were seven straight days of 90 or better readings starting on the 13th. Night time lows dipped below 50 only 4 times.
