A Pittsfield man originally charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a minor has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty in Pike County Circuit Court.
29-year-old Nicholas Spann pleaded guilty last Tuesday to one count of unlawful restraint, a Class 4 felony, and one count of criminal sexual abuse, a Class A misdemeanor.
In exchange for the guilty pleas, prosecutors dismissed charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13, a Class X felony, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim under 13, a Class 2 felony.
Judge J. Frank McCartney sentenced Spann to 30 months of probation for unlawful restraint and 24 months of probation for the misdemeanor conviction. The sentences will be served concurrently. Spann was also assessed county fines and court costs.
Spann was initially arrested in Pittsfield on Aug. 15, 2022, following an investigation that resulted in charges alleging the charges. The case was formally filed in Pike County in January 2024 and was scheduled for multiple jury trial dates before being resolved through the negotiated guilty plea.
