Jacksonville’s time capsule is now in the ground.

A small group gathered at the site to mark the burial. It is at the southeast corner of the city hall grounds, at Douglas and Sandy.

Jacksonville mayor Andy Ezard says it is a fitting location.

He says the city had trouble finding the last capsule. That will not be a problem with this one.

Ezard complimented Ginny Fanning and the work of the committee.

He says there will be a flat marker next to the site indicating the location of the time capsule. It is to be opened in 2076

The city celebrated the contents of the capsule at a ceremony on the square last month prior to a Jacksonville city council meeting.

The city had plans to bury the capsule on the square, until electrical lines were discovered underground at the burial site.
