The Winchester Grade School gymnasium will come down this week.
Crews are at the school today, ready to drop the building.
A sagging ceiling spotted during the Winchester Invitational Tournament in January prompted district officials to move the tournament and find out why the ceiling was dropping.
The support braces that extend from the gym roof were failing.
Winchester school superintendent Jeff Abell said in a facebook post the process was slowed during the permitting process.
But, he says the permits were issued last Monday, and the demo is ready to go.
Abell says crews have equipment on site. He expects it to go quickly.
Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Journal Courier reports the school board last month approved the placement of an $8 and a half million referendum on the ballot for November to pay for a new gym.
And, the school board will open bids tomorrow on the construction of a multi purpose building that will be located just to the south of the current gym.
